Mountain Flight
For the travelers, who disable to join a trekking trip to the mountains either because of time limit or other constraints
there are mountain flights to simulate the experiences. The one hour flight from Kathmandu Airport takes you within camera
range of some of the highest peaks in the world. It is a guaranteed flight, which is operated only when the weather favours
and view is satisfactory.
The first peak that appears on your horizon is the majestic Gosaithan standing at the majestic
height 8,013m. To its right, there appears Dorje Lhakpa (6,966 m), a mountain that looks like a massive figure of 8 lying
down and covered with snow. To its right is Phurbi Chyachu, which looms over the Kathmandu Valley. Next on your vision is
Choba Bhamare, the smallest one of the lot at 5,933 m but singularly stubborn as it remains unconquered to this day. Then
appears the mountain, standing out sharp and conspicuous – Hindus believe that Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati protect
this mountain, at the proud height of 7,134 m. As the flight moves towards the eastern Himalaya, a succession of majestic
mountains follow. Melungtse, a plateau-like mountain, stretches up to 7,023 m. Chugimago at 6,297 m is still a virgin, remains
to be scaled. Next is Karyolung at 6,511 m, an intensely white mountain gleams with the rising sun. Cho-Oyu is the sixth highest
mountain in the world at a height of 8,201 m. The most exciting stretch of the journey takes close to Gyachungkang at a majestic
height of 7952m which is considered as extremely tough climb. To its right is Pumori at 7161m and Nuptse at 7,855m stands
for West Peak. Finally, there is Mt. Everest (8,848 m) itself, known as Sagarmatha by the Nepalese and Chomolungma by the
Tibetans.
Much has already been written about Everest, but to actually witness the world’s tallest
and most enigmatic of mountain face to face during a mountain flight makes one to feel – “I have not climb the Everest but touch from the bottom of my Heart “.
